Lathe Machine
Lathe machines are one of the simplest and most commonly used machine in metal working industry. The metal removing operation carried out on lathe machines is called turning. Lathe machines are used for removing surplus amount of material from a work piece to create a round cross section product.
In a lathe machine a fixed cutting tool is fed against a rotating work piece. The work piece is held on the head stock of the machine where the job can be clamped using one of the commonly used clamping devices like a chuck or a collet. When the machine is switched on the clamping device along with work rotates. The curring tool is fixed on a movable slide which can be fed against the job as well as along the job which enable it to remove material from the periphery of the work as well as the length of the job.
